Sacraments

There are seven sacraments – visible  rituals as signs of God’s presence and channels of God’s grace – in the  Catholic Church. We invite you to read further or contact us at the  parish office to learn more about receiving these sacraments.

The Seven Sacraments

Baptism

Amen, amen, I say to thee, unless a man be born again of water and the  Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. (John 3:5)

The  Sacrament of Baptism is the basis of our Christian life, the gateway to  life in the Spirit and the door that gives access to the other  sacraments.  Through Baptism, we are freed from sin and reborn as sons  and daughters of God; we become members of Christ's body, as well as  members of the Church and we are made sharers in her mission.
The  Baptism of children is celebrated on Sundays during the year, after the  parents (and godparents) have attended the required class in  preparation for the sacrament.  If you are interested in taking the  class please call the Parish Office at 330-666-1373.

Reconciliation:

Father is typically available for Reconciliation (or Penance) in the rooms at the front of the church on Saturday afternoons from 4:00 to 4:30 p.m. If this time is not convenient, this Sacrament can be celebrated at any time by calling the office @ 330-666-1373 to schedule a personal appointment.

For  our parish children, the celebration of First Reconciliation is  celebrated in conjunction with our First Eucharist program. The program  introduces children to the reconciling process between themselves, God  and others.
For more information about First Reconciliation, contact Lisa Covington, P.S.R. Director, at 330-666-1373.

Eucharist:

Our parish children celebrate the Sacrament of First Eucharist in the spring of their second grade year. The First Eucharist program is centered in the family and prepares children  for this sacred meal of our faith. Through the P.S.R. Program, children are prepared for this Sacrament.
For more information about First Eucharistic celebrations, contact Lisa Covington, P.S.R. Director, at 330-666-1373.

Confirmation

The formation program for the Sacrament of Confirmation is offered  to students who are in the 8th and 9th grade.  For more information visit the Confirmation page in the Learn section  or contact Lisa Covington, P.S.R. Director, at 330-666-1373.

Adult  Catholics who have never been confirmed are encouraged to contact us on  an individual basis to prepare for the sacrament. Adults who have been  baptized in another Christian tradition are invited to prepare for  Confirmation as part of the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults  (RCIA).

Matrimony

Marriage is the "covenant by which a man and a woman establish between themselves a partnership of the whole of life and which is ordered by its nature to the good of the  spouses and the procreation and education of offspring" and which "has  been raised by Christ the Lord to the dignity of a sacrament between the  baptized." (from "CCC" can. 1055 §1)

Arrangements for your  wedding must be made six months in advance.  Please call the Parish  Office at 330-666-1373 to make the necessary arrangements.
We  also suggest you call a member of the Wedding Committee to assist you  with your rehearsal and wedding.

Anointing of the Sick:

Traditionally referred to as Extreme Unction or Last Rites, the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick was most commonly administered to the dying, for the remission of sins and the  provision of spiritual strength and health.  Today, however, its use has  been expanded to all who are gravely ill or are about to undergo a  serious operation, and the Church stresses a secondary effect of the  sacrament: to help a person recover his health.

Those with a  serious illness, advanced age, or in danger of death should request this  sacrament whether at home or in the hospital.  Please call the Parish  Office at 330-666-1373.

Holy Orders

The Sacrament of Holy Orders is a vocation choice for leadership and service in the Catholic community as an ordained minister. People can choose to serve the Catholic community by  becoming priests, deacons, or members of religious communities. Our  diocese has its own undergraduate and graduate school formation program  for both priests and deacons.

If you want more information about becoming a priest, deacon, or member of a religious community please visit the diocesan website or contact Fr. Weber at 330-666-1373.
