What is the difference between a Mission and a Vision?

Vision is a mental picture of what we want our parish to be in the future.

Mission is the guiding force for all we do in our journey towards making our vision a reality.

Why does the parish need a Vision statement?

Before we can properly determine what we should be doing, we need to know where we are going.

Why does the parish need a Mission statement?

The mission of the Church is to make disciples which is the Great Commission given us by Jesus. A Mission statement is used to help guide our decisions about priorities, actions, and responsibilities.

How will the Mission and Vision be used?

They will help the recently formed Parish and Finance Councils in developing plans and evaluating the success of parish efforts for the 7 elements of the parish which are community, worship, leadership, formation, stewardship, social justice, and evangelization.

Do other parishes in the diocese have a Mission and a Vision?

Yes. Our diocese has a Parish Pastoral Council Policy which contains Norms or basic laws required by the Church’s Code of Canon Law. The Cleveland diocesan policy requires that each parish have a Parish Pastoral Council and a pastoral plan which includes a vision and a mission.
